Voices of Change: Mikhail Shaidorov — Do What Others Are Afraid to Do

"The most important thing is to believe in yourself and do what others are afraid to do" The story of Mikhail Shaidorov
There are athletes who win. And there are those who change the sport itself. The hero of our first episode is the latter. Olympic champion 2026, Four Continents champion, silver medallistat the World Championships — behind these titles lies not just years of training, but a unique way of thinking: doing what others are afraid to do.
Where It All Began
Mikhail was five years old when his father put him on skates for the first time. No magic, no obvious talent —just ice and endless attempts to stay on his feet. But something clicked right then. Little Misha understood: falling is not scary.
What is scary is never trying.
Not to Repeat — But to Make History
Many athletes are inspired by the mastery of others and strive to replicate it. Mikhail looked at the best and thought differently: I want to make history.
This is not arrogance — it is a special kind of ambition. The kind that makes you train not until you are tired, but until you get results. The kind that turns 'impossible' into a working task. It was exactly this that led him to a moment figure skating will remember for a long time.
"Athletic Hooliganism"
When Mikhail performed a cascade that no one in the world had ever done before, he described it simply: athletic hooliganism.
Risk, going beyond boundaries, readiness to do what others refuse — not because they can't, but because they are afraid — became his fuel.
That jump was not just a technical achievement. It became a manifesto: if you are scared, you are on the threshold of something important. That means you have to go.
Perfectionism as a Superpower
"The result must come despite everything: your mood, your circumstances, other people's expectations. When the goal is clear, the external noise stops interfering. Moreover, it becomes fuel." — Mikhail
Behind his outward boldness liesan iron inner discipline. He calls himself a perfectionist.
Environment Matters
But even the strongest champion does not exist in a vacuum. Mikhail speaks about this directly:
"In life, as in sport, it is critically important to find an environment thatvalues your uniqueness. Where non-standard thinking is not a mistake to be corrected, but an advantage to be developed."
What matters is an environment where people pull you upward. It does not appear by chance: you have to search for it, choose it, sometimes create it yourself.
A Message to Those Just Starting Out
Mikhail's main advice is simple —and that is exactly why it works:
"Believe in your ideas, even if they seem bold. Only those who are ready to be hooligan sin their professional field bring real results into this world."
Don't wait until the idea becomes safe. Don't wait until everyone around you understands. Don't wait for permission. Act. That is how history is made.
Mikhail Shaidorov's story is the first in the Voices of Change series from inVision U. These are conversations with people who have not justachieved results, but rethought how those results are achieved.
